EMS-EMT Uniforms & Emergency Medical Supplies
EMTs and paramedics are faced with unpredictable challenges on a day-to-day basis. Not only do these challenges involve responding to medical emergencies as quickly as possible, but it also involves keeping patients in a stable condition until the hospital can be reached. With that in mind, it’s important for these first responders to wear the proper uniform apparel and keep their emergency response vehicles stocked with the necessary EMS supplies.
Galls is proud to offer a wide selection of EMS uniforms and quality medical tools from some of the industry’s best-selling brands. These brands include 5.11 Tactical, Flying Cross, Dyna Med, Avon, North American Rescue and much more.
EMT Uniforms
When responding to a medical emergency or accident, it’s important that EMTs and paramedics are easily distinguishable from the rest of first responders so that they can properly perform their medical duties. Donning the right EMT uniform will not only allow these professionals to enter the scene without issue, but also provide the protective features needed to shield them from health hazards such as bodily fluids and bloodborne pathogens.
EMT Uniform Shirts
EMT uniform shirts are typically made roomy enough to move around in but maintain a professional appearance. They consist of either a polo shirt or Class A/B-style button down and will be chosen based upon the requirements of the employer. Important features to look for in EMT work shirts include lightweight, breathable construction with moisture-wicking capabilities, underarm gussets for a range of motion and a liquid and/or stain resistant finish such as DWR or Teflon.
A highly popular option that EMTs and paramedics turn to is the Flying Cross Men’s Command Polyester Short Sleeve Shirt. This button down shirt is the perfect blend of functionality and a crisp appearance. It features a spacious cut with built-in creases and has VISA System 3-fabric technology that allows moisture to dry 33% faster than nano-treated fabrics while also releasing stains 4.5 times better.
EMS Pants
An EMT’s pants are one of the most crucial parts of the uniform. EMT pants are designed with specialized pockets so that they can carry medical instruments such as trauma shears, a tourniquet, stethoscope, face mask, etc. It’s important that these uniform pants are reinforced at the knees and gusseted at the crotch to allow for a wide range of motion and accommodate different positions EMTs often find themselves in. They also need to have some form of liquid and/or stain resistant finish as well as a stretchable or adjustable waistband.
The 5.11 Tactical Taclite EMS Pants are made for lightweight comfort and durability. These work pants have cargo pockets that are specifically designed for EMS professionals and have internal dividers to keep EMT gear sorted. The self-adjusting tunnel waistband and gusseted crotch allows for freedom of movement and virtually eliminates seam failure. On top of that, these EMS cargo pants have been treated with a Teflon finish to resist stains and moisture.
Additional EMS Reflective Apparel & Accessories
Many emergency calls involve vehicular accidents, making it dangerous for the EMTs and paramedics who have to respond. This especially poses significant risk on cloudy days, nights and other low visibility conditions. To reduce the risk of being hit by another vehicle while on scene, it’s important for first responders to adorn some type of reflective material on their uniform. This can be anything from 3M Scotchlite reflective tape or reflective patches to apparel made from fluorescent material such as a safety vest or hi vis EMS jacket.
It’s also important to note that Galls offers embroidery and silkscreening options for any uniform customizations that need to be done.
EMS Boots & Footwear
EMTs and paramedics have to respond to any emergency call in all-weather conditions and on varying terrains. As a first line of defense, these first responders need to wear a pair of sturdy EMS work boots that will stand up to the elements and other on-scene hazards such as broken glass, harmful fluids, etc.
To ensure that an EMT’s feet are fully protected, it’s important that they have these boot features to stay prepared:
- ASTM certification
- Waterproof and/or bloodborne pathogen resistance
- Moisture-wicking lining
- Oil and/or slip resistance
- Safety toe
- Side zipper
The Thorogood Commando 8" Side-Zip Waterproof Composite Toe Boots are a perfect example of what to look for in a pair of EMS work boots. These EMT boots deliver waterproof, bloodborne pathogen resistance and come ASTM F2413-11 certified for safety toe protection. The removable two density PU "shock zone" footbed with airflow vents keeps the foot cool and comfortable while the slip-resistant outsole provides positive traction on most surfaces. These safety toe boots also have a two-zone moisture-wicking mesh liner and meet CAN/CSA-Z195 standards for up to 18,000 volts of electrical shock resistance.
EMT Supplies & Medical Equipment
In addition to the EMS / paramedic uniform, first responders must also keep a vast array of emergency medical products supplied in their emergency vehicles. Galls carries a massive selection of EMS equipment including but not limited to medical bags, infection control supplies, immobilization equipment, medical instruments, medical kits and much more.
Medical Bags: In order to keep up with the abundance of EMS gear that first responders lug around, they need to carry a medical bag. These medical bags provide an easy way to transport equipment and are specialized for different purposes such as trauma, first aid, oxygen therapy etc. From basic life supports to advanced life support bags, Galls has all the necessary carriers needed to keep everything organized and easily accessible.
Infection Control PPE: The risk of exposure to bacteria, bodily fluids and cross-contamination runs high in emergency vehicles. To minimize exposure, EMTs and paramedics need to wear the proper personal protective equipment and keep their work stations sanitized. This is especially important when helping patients with underlying health conditions or a weakened immune system. Infection control PPE at Galls includes face masks, face shields, medical gloves, disinfectant wipes, disposable coveralls and more.
Immobilization Equipment: When extricating a patient from an accident, stabilizing them is a top priority. Whether it’s a broken arm or a traumatic brain injury, additional immobilization equipment will be required. Depending on the level of injury, the type of equipment used can vary. Galls carries an abundance of immobilization/extrication equipment including neck braces, stretchers, spine boards, splints and more.
Shears & Instruments: In some situations, it may be necessary to use a pair of trauma shears before CPR or first aid can be applied. Trauma shears are an inexpensive, versatile tool that can be used to cut through clothing, tape, small cords, straps, etc. Galls also carries additional medical instruments such as ring cutters, pupil gauges and tactical holster kits.
Medical Kits: The severity of an emergency can vary from basic first aid all the way to traumatic injuries and will require specialized med kits for that particular treatment. Most emergency medical kits will consist of basic first aid supplies along with specialized tools. Galls’ supplies a large selection of first aid kits, CPR kits, IFAK pouches, oxygen kits, tactical trauma kits and much more.
